Background
The desire to document, preserve, and show off memories of social events and moments in time is not new. This has been done in various ways by people over the years - photographs and selfies at events, saving mementos such as event flyers, ticket stubs or even bits of confetti (I can personally vouch for all of these). However, displaying all of your event attendance tokens may not be desirable, so the ability to curate this collection has some appeal.
Current Reference Point
Having a âproof of attendanceâ (see https://www.poap.xyz/ as an example) token for social events could serve as a great starting point for social interaction and rewards. Implementation and distribution of the âproof of attendanceâ token could then be extended in the following ways:
- All token holders could be granted access to bonus content related to the event (exclusive download, future social interaction, a vote on the next event)
- Distribution of social currency sent to all addresses holding X token
- Replay of event linked directly to the attendance token
Future Vision
More than the creation of the token though, having a user contract and dashboard that allows customization/display of the experiences is needed. With the POAP example previously, the NFTs owned by a wallet are viewable on âPOAPSCAN or any NFT-enabled interface (Etherscan, OpenSea).â This allows the ability to search for a specific NFT via viewing a user wallet or the NFT type. This could be used for additional marketing opportunities (as listed in the previous section), but may also draw undesired attention to the account owner. Having the ability to own an asset but not publicly reveal that (maybe youâre a huge Justin Bieber fan and attended his virtual show, complete with NFT memento but donât to lose street cred when your followers find out youâre a Belieber) would be nice - creating an interface that could leverage the Flow Restricted-Access functionality for customizing your publicly displayed swag by removing the read permissions for specific NFTs could be nice.
